It's a bit general isn't it? I would have thought beginners (the people this article is obviously aimed at) would need a series of "how to" steps. The author of the article tells us what we need to do but doesn't tell us how to do it. They tell us to target phrases that don't have too much competition, but they don't tell us how to measure competition.

This article I wrote goes into the actual steps involved in selecting and targeting search phrases (or at least one method of doing that, anyway). It's a bit more detailed than simply saying "pick high search count, low competition phrases then target them".

Very well written. First off, the traffic count is not always important. Never think on how much traffic you are getting for that particular keyword search.

Also, its not just keywords that always get you traffic. Long phrase searches in Search engines also bring in a lot of traffic, that's why people opt for optimized content where the phrases are well written to match what someone searches.
Also, for a particular topic, don't rely on just a few keywords. Try to be as vast as possible with lesser and slower targeting on each of the keyword combination. Google has its eye open on every promotion, so faster promotions don't usually work well.

Webmasters usually target for 2-3 keyword long phrases and most of the time and promotion is spent on them, rather than longer phrases, which is one of the biggest mistakes made by them. Longer phrases bring in lesser traffic, but you always don't need to look on the amount of traffic.

Very true. We should be looking for targeted traffic. What good is it for a person to get 20,000 visitors a day but has a bounce rate of 80%????

I'd bet that Google can top that "bounce rate".

"Bounce rate" is a subjective metric.

If you run an information based site having a low "bounce rate" is a consideration.

If you run a "real" website that sells "real" products site having a low "bounce rate" is a consideration.

HOWEVER.

If you have a MFA, lead generator, affiliate link, search engine type of site then a high "bounce rate" should be expected.
