Help. I am trying to get a site indexed that is made primarily of images, with maybe 5 words total on the page. Is there a trick to do this? How do I properly optimize?

i suggest to add alt text to those images.. it can help.. also try to gather more quality links..

ive read somewhere that adding alt text (relative to the image and site) will do the trick...

You can label the images before you upload it to your server. If you have the right keyword as the picture name, it can be indexed and can rank in Google image search. It will be visible to surfers. Not only the image will be seen but you site as well.

May add some headers w/ keywords in them as well.

We added text, we were indexed after we submitted our sitemap.

You are talking about indexing not about ranking...ALt, text, headers all these can help in getting ranking..

For indexing, take links from already indexed pages and do press release and then social bookmarking. These are the way to get crawled soon. It can take some time, but be sure you will get crawled.

Putting up relative description and alt text can help your site indexed on the Google image search. But your site to get indexed, just keep building links to your site from websites that are often crawled by the bots such as social bookmarking sites and forums.
