I have a client's site that is ranked #4 (on first page) but our competitor is ranked #3. It's not his site that is ranked #3 - it his profile on YELP that is ranked.

I've been backlinking like crazy and the SEO on our site is pretty good. Is there any other way to beat out a competitor when his profile is on a major site like YELP?

Sure. My niche is "Chiropractor Brighton MA". Check out this link: http://www.google.com/search?source=...=&aqi=g%3As1g5

Then, look for DrSimon.net - this is my client's site. His competitor is ranked right ahead of him at #4.

Hmm... I would try to do more on-page optimization to the homepage (H1, add more content, etc...). Then I would create some accounts on yelp and bookmark and write reviews for your client's profile. Hopefully you can bring his profile up in the yelp rankings. I think that with time, combined with link building, you will be able to overtake that position.

Hi mate,

Just tell your client, #5 and #4 doesn't have big different.

Sometimes, LUCK will play their roles.

Cheers..

When trying to leapfrog up one position we analyze the competitors website from top to bottom. Look at the way they utilize their title and h1 tags. See what sites they have inbound links coming from and what the anchor text is. This will give you a good idea of what they have done to reach their current position. All you have to do is replicate some of those on and off page factors and include that into the current seo campaign.

Here you are competing against a YELP page so the problem is not on-site but off-site. You have 997 incoming links and a PageRank of 2... get more QUALITY links and deep links.

I hope you also beat local.yahoo.com! Good luck

Make your title shorter, cut it in half and you will move to number 2 I think.

yes, off-seo is enough for your sites. if you want higher rank, try work on-page seo.

Position 4 is good and all above sites sould be well optmized.. and also to get prmotion on it need hard work..the cary link building wont work properly.. Build link from quality sites and also concentrate on content aswell on page optmization.. keep changing frequently

To make you sure - people are now very much aware of what they are finding and where they should go. After searching in G, they read everything in the search result and then only click on links. So i would recommend to sustain your ranking without being jealous of your competitor's ranking.
