Hello,

I just wanted to say hi and look forward to learning more about SEO. Anybody have any suggestions for someone new to it. I have all the books and have read most of them cover to cover. Still some of it is still confusing on how to get more exposure.

thank you.

What is making you confuse. As with too many books consulted you cannot have any more doubts.

If you know the basics of HTML and CSS - you'll be ok there. With the SEO - build yourself a site and experiment with it. That's how you learn.

Yes often reading too many books might jumble up all that you have learned and can get you easily confused. But don't worry SEO is not that much confusing and learning it parallel with other subjects is OK. You must just get yourself accustomed to some of the most common SEO techniques in practice nowadays and learn some of the SEO terminologies and then you can start off.

Getting more backlinks, posting in forums (on regular basis) and submitting articles. Build a blog and regularly update it. If you have time then start chatting and daily send your link in message board.

I think you now know how to get exposure?

there is nnothin to confues i guess, as you say you have all the books and resources, just make a blog, daily update it and try all the SEO practices you have learned so far with it... very soon you will have a first hand experience and it will help you in the longer run to showcase your work to the prospective clients also

Hello,
Don't get confused with the books and other resources you have read.
These are of no use untill you go on the machine.
So try to perform as many SEO techniques and then within a short time you gotta know wat's d difference between books n practical work.
Do search for any confusion n remove it. As net is a hub of solutions.

No wonder you are confused!

HTML and CSS are absolutely nothing to do with SEO/SEM.

Read <link type="selfpromo" Google advice for SEOs and download the PDF.

I'm totally with Chrishirst here, although I'm very much used to hearing of people with coding backgrounds doing SEO say that "you can't imagine someone doing proper SEO with no solid knowledge of html". Hmm, basically I say that I think I can

Well I agree with most of them. Don’t get confused and don’t read too much books. The best way to learn and understand SEO is to do it practically. Start off with link submission on free web directories and social bookmarking and then soon you will start learning too. Best of Luck!

All the exposure for your site is meaningless if nobody does anything on your site. If everybody in the world can find your site but it is still worthless, why would anyone go back? Make your site worthwhile for people to visit, focus on their needs and you will gain repeat visitors.

Every SEO venture should start with keyword research. Finding less competition keywords and lots of searches. This is to ensure that you can rank well on that keyword.

These keywords then can be used on web2.0 sites like squidoo, hubpages, wetpaint, etc.

Writing articles out of this can also give lots of help.
