This is a simple question, yet probably a complex answer. Given that the contents on the website/articles are good and use keywords throughout the article, is Joomla an overall good CMS to use for SEO? In the admin panel, when posting a new article it gives you options to put in keywords. Also, it lets you completely configure the metatags (from which I hear have little to no value to search engines)

I'm sure it has a lot to do with the content that is submitted on the website, but as far as the styling (headers, h1, h2, h3..etc) goes is it compatible? I know it has a lot to do with the template/style that you are using, but in general I'm guessing that they use a pretty decent styling system.

The coding is clean and efficient, but I am unsure of the ALT tags for images (will have to check on this). It has a nice text based navigation system with a good internal linking structure.

It also allows you to have a sitemap (I'm unsure if it is an XML sitemap). I'm unsure what a robots.txt file does (saw this in another post) but it is also included with it.

These CMS systems are all, in my experience, pretty similar in SEO terms. The key is simply how you build your template. Personally, I prefer Drupal to Joomla, but it's no better or worse at being optimised. Both systems have various SEO plug-ins available. As does WordPress.

I say YES!
first is its nature, blog that focus on content
second is its codes, simple that search engine will be happy to crawl
third is its user friendliness that leads to easy update.

that three is my top consideration for SEO.

With the thousands of SEO plugins for wordpress, I think it is still the best platform. It is easy to use and can be crawled by bots in a short period.

together with your juicy contents, you can rank well in search engines within hours if you have done your keyword research properly.

Joomla is very good in terms of SEO and also has many different features that you won't find anywhere else plus they have so many templates it's mind boggling.

Joomla is better but I've a small issue that seo friendly urls are not working. If I turn on seo friendly url options, the link page shows page cannot be displayed. However, there are many valuable modules available for joomla that can be used for a business website.

Joomla is obviously developing their unique templates and I gotta say the sites are just plain excellent. If Joomla can perform like this... that on its own is a significantly clear advantage!

I am on Joomla and it works fine. When using Joomla CMS, SEO in many ways is a much easier task to undertake. There are link building components, friendly URL components as well as title and keyword meta tag creaters.

You can set a generic meta data for all pages, set them individually for Title, Description, Keywords, Robots, Copyright.

Joomla has been known to being not so SEO friendly (this might change in Joomla 1.6) However there are many plugins to optimize the site SEO wise. Do you really need a full blown CMS like Joomla? It all depends on what you would like to accomplish with your site.
