Hi guyz,

Before last week Google was showing 2200 Back links for my site but from last week its showing 822. what is that, can any body tell me that happen here.

For EXACTLY the same reasons why "rank checking" is a waste of time.

I think Google shows the quality back links only and put them into its primary database and rest of the links are placed under omitted results section.

May be rest of your back links have lost their Google trust or it may be, they are out of the Google index.

May be next time the number of back links will get improved once they are re-indexed.

Soumenpaul: I am also thinking what you are saying, but not really getting the clear cut view that why Google Do that, i am sure that in next index it will show me all back links, but why Google is now showing low number of links

One more thing here: If Google is Reducing my back links, so it will also decrease my PR, But Right now its Same, Will this also went down if Google Refuse to Accept some back links.

If you must obsess about your backlinks, try this tool:

You should try and convice your boss it's far more important to look at things like traffic, bounce rate and conversions than at backlinks.

I have noticed that one of my sites has lost a load of backlinks, yet still ranks the same. Maybe it's something to do with the changes to Webmaster Tools? Either way, Google has never really shown the whole picture about backlinks.

Thanks ED, well if you guys suggesting me to convince my Boss/Client, i will try that. You are also right that Google never shows the correct number of back links. and if this decrease has no effect on ranking and PR then y to worry about.

Google does not show all backlinks to your site. As I think it does show only quality backlinks. So just try to check your backlinks in backlinkwatch(dot)com or yahoo site explorer.

Now, Google is counting only relevant and specific link as back link and gives the page rank on those back links.

can anyone tell me why MSN showing even lower amount of backlinks in my site? it is natural and I don't need to worry about it?

I only got 0 backlinks in MSN

WHO CARES!!!!!!

The SEs DO NOT SHOW all the links they "know" about, AND they do NOT necessarily count the ones they show!!

You are wasting time and effort over something that means absolutely NOTHING and NEVER has!!!!

Well I may be wrong here but having some quality backlinks should also equate to getting some quality traffic from those backlinks shouldn't it? Im mean its not always going to be the case but having your site linked on a high traffic site will sometimes get you a piece of that traffic. I'd love to have a back link on goodaddy.com for instance...

A link from a high-traffic site will not necessarily mean something. If the "high traffic" is simply not interested in the site linked to, nothing on earth would make people return if they click at all.

Normally Google does not show all the backlinks, time to time it changes it, But the backlinks will be there. Google does not show all. It is better to check with site explorer of yahoo. It used to show all the backlinks.

If you're trying to figure out how google exactly work, so as millions of other people to get advantage on serps ranking. But the point is google wont tell.lol So don't worry on your backlinks count too much, I mean tell your boss that. hehe
