I made some changes to a website over the w/e and discovered yesterday that my SERP position for two keywords had moved from near the bottom of the first page to NUMBER 1, numero uno! And, two other keywords that I had been struggling with had moved from page 13 to page 1! Whoa! Man, was I happy! ...However, I kinda felt it was too good to be true...And it was.
I noticed that Google was using my Web history search patterns to customize my SERP when I entered a keyword in their search box. Because I check on these keywords multiple times a day, the result are horribly skewed.
At the bottom of the page Google gives an option to check w/o the effects of the web search history "enhancement: "If you're curious, you can see what a search for "keyword" looks like without these improvements." When I use this feature, I get better results. I'm on the middle of page one for 2 keywords, but still on page 13 for two others.
Question: What's the best way to get around these skewed results?
- Remove web search history from my webmaster account altogether?
- Pause web search history?
- Use and better SERP position tracker? I use Niche Watch. Is there anything better and free?
