Hi, I am wondering what others have in terms of targeting multiple keywords to one website.

Is it possible to optimize one page for up to 5 - 10 key words?

It is far easier to optimise for several words/phrases and make the pages read naturally, than it is to limit them and make them appear stilted and/or forced.

Normally, I used to optimize one page for 4-5 keywords.
However, I have some cases, which I do not optimize for a particular keyword, but I have got rank on TOP# 10 on google only with the help of backlinks.

For an example: Keyword - Weight loss pills reviews, In that page, I just talked about weight loss and weight loss pills, I did not use a word "Weight loss pills reviews" anymore there. (But in meta keyword - I have it

) - I have got ranked.

for me 5% keywords density is OK but it is depends on how is the niche is more high competitions will be harder,and in this case keywords density is no matter again to look after

ignore keyword density, Google doesn't calculate this.

ChrisHirst said it best: you need to make it good for humans and natural looking.

I normally stick to a maximum of 3 keywords/phrases per page. It helps if they overlap a little, so if you're doing a page on garden furniture, you could target:

Garden Furniture
Outdoors Furniture
Patio Furniture

and dot these around your page in appropriate places - TITLE, H1 and your body paragraphs. Also in image ALT attibutes too.

But remember - don't keyword stuff - just place naturally within your text.

It depends on how competitive your keywords are. I tend to target one major/more competitive keyword per page (my first paragraph or two and the major coding) and then target other less competitive or more long-tailed keywords as well in paragraphs at the bottom of the page and/or in the footer.

Sorry, I am going to ask a newbie question because that's what I am. I just happened to stumble upon this post and it's got me curious. When you say target - what do you mean? In a page, lets say they're 400 words - How can I target a particular word or words? Does that mean to have more of that word in a page? Yet that does not make sense? If that were the case, words like "the" would be the only targets.

Sorry for the simplistic question but I am new to being a webmaster.

Do not artificially stuff your pages with keywords.

Other than that - there's more to ranking than just a keyword occurrence on the page, why compromise the integrity of the text then.

targeting multiple keywords in single site is not bad but targeting single page is not wise.. always better is single page single keyword

Yes, it's possible. But you need to allot lots of time and energy to optimize a page with 5 target keywords. It's time-consuming and a bit confusing too since you need to change your anchor texts all the time.

Keyword density is only a “supporting factor”. Ex:- If you have a new website, which you are filling with fresh content, then it’s good to follow a pattern where all the new topics you write revolve around a particular topic.

Yes it is possible to target one page for 4-5 keywords. I am normally targeting one link for 4-keywords.

I think that is too much. I normally optimize a page for 2-3 keywords. I hope that is more than enough. Isn't? If we optimize for more keywords & If that is identified by google, then there will be an issue for us..

Fresh with out copy content, add more relevant keywords also check keyword density. Good keyword density is between 3 - 7%. Keyword density is a combination of the number of times a keyword or a keyword phrase, in proportion with other words, appears on a Web page. The more times the keyword appears in relation to the total number of on page words, the greater the overall keyword density.

It is possible to target for 5 to 10 keywords. However you do need to ensure all the keywords are related or relevant to each other. Of course as some members have pointed out, the efforts you need to put in to rank for the particular keyword largely depends on how competitive the keyword is.

But remember to target related keywords, otherwise it could bring more harm than good as you'll end up confusing the SE on what your site is all about.

As many would testify, best way to rank high in SERP is through good quality backlinks pointing to your site.

And have you ever investigated why and found out that most of the "advice" about "keyword density", "keyword proximity" and other such buzz words used by "experts" is complete drivel??

Target a keyword once or twice with every hundreds words are best. Use the proper keyword to target.
