Do Links Trigger Sandbox?

I've read Wikipedia's new info about the sandbox (previously Wikipedia said nothing about links triggering the sandbox):

Quote:
"sandbox", in an effort to counter the ways that search engine optimizers attempt to manipulate Google's page ranking to bring sites to the top, by creating lots of inbound links to a new web site from other web sites that they own before creating that web site. A "reverse sandbox" effect is also claimed to exist, whereby new pages with good content but without inbound links are temporarily increased in rank,
I have a new site that is doing OK in the serps (but would like it to be higher in due course) with only a couple of directory and forum signature links. Will adding links to this site from 5-6 sites/squidoo lenses/blogs that I own help it long term or will it get penalised if I do???

Would appreciate any info.

There def seems to be some sort of sandbox for newer sites to prevent from ranking too quickly. You need to focus on building a natural linking profile and getting high quality backlinks. Its going to take months to achieve the rankings you want even for easy phrases.

Dont just rely on squidoo or article marketing alone.

He's right - blog & forum backlinks don't hurt (though they don't do a whole lot). Don't forget about SBM sites.

I think SBM links only help for temporary rankings. In my point of view, I believe thematic links (through two & three way link building) are the more valuable links that can bring value to a website.

Sandbox..a new term i come to know about in this discussion.. If this is the way of creating a bunch of back links.. but probably it might comes under a black hat technique.. and this might be a wrong way I suppose..

But anyway.. thanks a lot for the info.. & yeah.. keep updating..

Many thanks all for your replies. What I was really trying to find out is - for new sites - will it help or get the site penalised/sandboxed if I create some links (eg 5 or 6) to it from sites I already own (eg squidoo lenses, blogs, a personal website of mine)?

For example, I've created a new nursery site a few weeks ago which is part way down p1 of the serps for its main keyword. I would like to get it higher once the site ages - I know it's still a new site and so I have to be patient - but I wasn't sure whether creating links to it from sites I own will help it or trigger a penalty/sandbox???????? Rankings are improtant to this customer and so I don't want to experiment and risk their serps placements.

Have a look at post #2 again, these are the condensed replies to what you are asking. These links will not get you into trouble unless you start abusing this pattern (just like any other pattern), which you are obviously not going to do. OTOH, the 5 links won't help much.

Links Trigger Sandbox?

I don't think there is certain kind of connection between the two.

I mean, your site stays there until it gets mature enough to be allowed to the Top Positions club. For Google, the jailing in the sandbox for new sites with new domains is on average 6 months, although it can vary from less than a month to over 8 months.

In my opinion, my answer to your query is NO.. but if you want to keep ranking in serps I suggest you continue with seo. And make sure your backlinks are of quality.
