This list should tell you everything you need to know.

Edit:

In all seriousness, you should do a little research on your own. However, if you can wait until then, I have a blog post scheduled for Tuesday that talks about exactly this topic.

Hi Rajesh,
Don't think there'll ever be a real complete list with the constant changes in the web. But important on page factors I tend to focus on includes
Title tag
H1 tag
Keyword tag
Meta Description tag
internal linking structure

I'm wondering how "sitemap" & "robots.txt" fit into "onpage"???

Perhaps the term should be "onsite SEO"? ie, stuff you absolutely have control over.

Chris, You keep saying this over and over and I'm sure everyone is trying to create great and unique content but naturally when you start a website it's going to be tough to compete with the content of millions of other sites out there of the same niche.

I could create great content for the next year and still not many people would find my site because so many other established sites with teams of content writers write about similar topics to me.

What I'm saying, is there must be some methods of getting a better SERP OTHER than simply writing quality content. Otherwise why would anyone employ a SEO company and what is the point in this forum??

It would be really great to see a sticky thread here about how to effectively conduct both on and off site seo once you have reached the stage whereby you have spent weeks and months creating great content but finally want to get seen by search engine users.

All I can find on this forum so far are people asking genuine and understandable questions and being called 'numpties' for asking them without any real solid guidance. Then there are also people who are replying with advice without sounding like they know for certain if the advice they are given is correct.

I'm just looking for some really good advice or tips as there's a lot of cr*p on the internet regarding SEO and I was hoping that buy joining this forum I could meet some helpful experts.

Cheers.

How do you expect anyone to be interested in your site if it doesn't have great content?

If there are "millions of other sites" it is NOT a "niche".

ok, well same topic area then. Do you have any other comment on my post?

This is what i mean...it just seems there are a lot of 1 line answers everywhere and not much substance, and I don't just mean from you but by many others. It does feel like people are posting to increase their post count (maybe because of signature links???)

First, let me say if you actually spend some time searching the forum, there are answers to your questions, and it has probably been answered 150 times. So do some research instead of just coming here and expecting someone to tell you the magic secret to SEO.

Second, it is much more complicated than "give me complete list" so again do some research and my advice is if someone just tells you to "get more backlinks" ignore anything else they have ever said.

Third, if you don't have time to do the research to "learn" how to optimize your site, then hire one of those so-called SEOs to do it for you.

The aggravation from our moderators has reason, so do some research first, then if you have more specific questions ask away.

I see what you're saying but my point is that I am searching the forums and the same questions are coming up again and again and are met with fairly hostile responses. I just think that at least there should be some a sticky thread with guidance about on site and off site seo.

Right now I'm confused because there are a whole load of people throwing around ideas and then you get mods saying to just work on your content.

Of course, working on content is my priority but there seems to be more to SEO than just producing quality content so why not have some Sticky Guidance threads about it???

I'm not trying to be a pain in the a*s but I'm just a bit bemused by how 95% of this forum are throwing around ideas and then the mods are replying with one line 'don't bother' type answers.

Here is a video from a source I consider reputable to get you started http://www.seobook.com/video-page-seo-tips-google and again, you have to use common sense.

http://www.seomoz.org/blog/perfectin...e-optimization another good source
