It filters out the deliberately targetted pages from the "accidental competitor" ones
It's not 100%, but it's FAR more reliable than the raw results count which includes FAR more pages than are actually aiming for the phrase
if you want to check the anchor text factors use the same method, but use the allinanchor: command instead.
