Look at the sites that rank really well in Google: for most search terms you'll see a wikipedia page, or a page from the BBC, or Facebook or something similar. One thing these guys have in common is that their sites are useful - people like them, people use them and people want to spread the word. No matter how good you are at SEO, you're never going to get a useless site to the top of the rankings.

Only way I know is to have well-researched content which everybody will find it useful and mention it in their own blog posts.

Content is king - but you need to bring the traffic in to see it. That is why you backlink to move up in the serps - the more you move up, the more ppl will see it, and the more they will link to your content.

Yes. "Content is the King " and "Link is the Queen". Getting natural quality links is easier said than done.Great content, what does this mean?
1. Unique content
2. Content that will cater to most of the people.
3. Good Information
4. Content that asks for syndication
5. Content that is created for the visitors and not for the Search Engines.
