Nothing is better than Google Keyword Tool! BUt here is the trick.....once you decide on a few keywords you must find how much competition there is for that keyword. What good is a keyword that get 10k searches per month is you have 1 million website to compete with.

You have to find a highly searched keyword with little competition. PM me for the inside secret!

I have been using google keyword tools myself. No doubt you get great data. Of course you have to do substantial digging.

Of course good tools especially if you need to pay for them should cut down your time substantially in your search for profitable keywords with low competition.

I always rely on Google Keyword Tool. Nothing beats the keyword suggestions that it gives out. But along with that, I also use SEO Elite to analyze my competition. Keyword research should be accompanied with comprehensive competition analysis.

The numbers of searches are totally wrong in Google Keyword Tool. This either indicates all inventory Google has (incuding all Adsense sites) or uses formula matching for example "green big apple" results from "green apple" and "big apple". I have used Wordtracker and Trellian database where I can get more realistic (and much lower) search volume matching my experiences being on first position on some key phrase in Google where Google shows monthly search volume to be around 300 and I'm getting 7-8 visitors monthly using this phrase being the first in list.
