Make list of popular blogs (popularity by pagerank and alexa rank) where is discussions about seo, link building, marketing things
Do the same with blogs

And take some time to read once per day (use netvibes), after go to try with some project. How to see your work result are written in main seo forums or blogs.

Wow, I also want to help but I don't know where to begin..lol If you really want to know even just the basics, I don't think you'll be asking that instead of just trying to read a lot of articles which you could find in the net for free and even here on other threads..
