I use cpanel hosting. Where do i get the stats for where the traffic is coming from? If someone can explain difference between page views and page hits etc that would be handy.

Hello,

You can see where the traffic is coming from your website by using web site traffic analytics.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

I use Google Analytics - from there you can see direct traffic, what site directed the visitor to your site (called a referral), bounce rate - just about anything you need. Plus it's free.

I also have two sites on Godaddy that does the same job using metrics and crap like that - but I have to pay 2.99/month for that. I'm thinking about dropping that crazy little service and throw GA on it.

There are also plugins that will monitor the traffic of your website if it is created with WordPress.

Sign up w/ google analytics. It's free and very easy to use. I still using it until today. I've tried cpanel but I think I am more good w/ google analytics. Try it and see the difference.

You can use google analytics to see the traffic on your site. I think google analytics is the most authenticated source of viewing your traffic.

Best option is to sign-up for google analytics. you will know each and every detail about the your website traffic. all that you need to do is put a small code in you home page that is it.

Try using Google Analytics. It's the most straight forward. But GA is not doing this as a service. They are actually capturing all your traffic details and other stats. Then use it to enrich their index. Google Monopoly at its best!

Sorry about going a bit off topic. Anyway, try to compare what GA says to some other analytic tool. Server logs are by far the most accurate. Added bonus is that you can actually see when different crawlers visited your site. Check this.
