I am beginning to think that Social Bookmarking tools like OnlyWire and AddThis are more of a problem than a help.

I often notice my social bookmarking showing up in SERP results....but for only one site...whether it be Redditt, Digg, Stumble, or jumptags.

If you mass submit the same bookmark....does Google treat them all as duplicates?

Would you be better off making a unique bookmark by hand at each social bookmarking site?

For duplicate content it needs to be over 50% same content. Bookmarks are only like 10% so probably not. But google will realize that your website is formatted in the same way. Best bet is to change it up everytime you submit. Always cover your back.

I agree with brp002. For me - I use a few BM sites on one page and different BM sites on another page. Try to keep away from duplication.

Regarding duplicate content: There is NO duplicate content penalty. Having multiple instances of identical content on different sites around the internet is fine. Google will index as many instances of social bookmarks you might use, but it will most likely only display one or two of them in the SERPs.

If you mass-submit to lots of SB sites, the links from the SB sites are counted, though links from these sites are low-quality ones. There is no harm in submitting your links to 100s of SB sites, but the effort that takes will simply not be worth it.

Stick with the more popular SB sites like Digg and StumbleUpon, these are great for getting traffic.

I have also found mixx.com to be very good, and del.icio.us too. It's worth trying all of the larger SB sites

I don't think search engines treat these bookmarks as duplicated content. What are bookmarks? Backlinks!

So if you have many backlinks with same anchor text, does it mean you have duplicated content?

No, the same anchor text isn't considered duplicate content.

To clear things up, duplicate content only applies to content on ONE site. IF you have duplicate content on your site, Google might (and notice the MIGHT) only include one instance in the SERPs.

use two or three titles with 2 or 3 descriptions and submit.. you wont have any duplicate problem..

My point is I want my bookmarks to dominate the search results for those long tailed keywords!
