Hello,
I am really interested in SEO which I want to get indexed on Google, Yahoo, MSN, and other major search engines.
What I have been doing in my free time is to create new pages adding to my sites and also submit my sites to web directories and article directories to get back links.
What method is better to get more traffic?
1. Fresh updated content.
2. Back links.
Thank you!

2. Back links.
Just important note. Make sure they are the ones from the different Class IPs. In this case each link will have more value

IP "classing" hasn't existed since 1995.
Which was before Google was even created!!!!!

This whole "different IP" stuff is just TOTAL BS

I think if you want to be successful online you have to use both things. Fresh and interesting content is #1 and all other things that can attract backlinks to you are #2.

I think both 2 above mentioned methods would not get you direct traffic but they would both help your sites in SERP and PR.
If fresh contents were king, then backlinks would be God. IMO.

Thanks,

Both are important.
Google loves fresh content, when you have it you get Frequent Indexing. And when search engines look at your site more frequently, you can achieve higher rankings based on the content you provide.

If your site contains fresh content it will automatically get higher traffic. Back llinks are also another methods to increase traffic. Fresh content is the main thing about every site. Adding number of back links increases indicates the higher traffic.

Totally wrong dude. Where did you get that information?

Frequent Crawling = Higher Rankings

Doesn't work that way.

The answer to the OP is of course both at the same time and continually,

To Chris the mod - I was not convinced that IP addresses mattered either, ut having seen a massive test someone has done on another forum with their sites (I wont name the forum in case its against TOS) it DOES appear to effect the juice passed on by links that should be equal, in that experiment anyway.

I also note that every time Matt Cutts is asked that question in his blog, he ignores it and answers another point instead. There is no clear answer to say "no we do not discount link from the same IP address". Google must have a ton of stuff in their algo to check quality, and massive amounts of links from the same IP rane might be a good indicator to use?

So, I am not personally going to dismiss IP diversity as "total BS" just yet, and think its something to be aware of, just in case.

Yep it's called the Internet.

Unfortunately more people believe the fakers and the charlatans guesses and imaginary "facts" than any REAL testing that is done.

I'm with you Chris. I'm tired of all this mis-information on these forums. A lot of ppl think they know what they are talking about. What they do is read what other ppl are saying - but they don't know by experience. I say they start experimenting and tell others of how they do - instead of recycling crap of what other ppl are saying.

Back links are more important for search engines but you need to have good fresh content in order to maintain a constant supply of new visitors which would also help your ranking.
