I've seen questions about how to get pages or websites indexed faster. I've heard answers that say that you should be patient - Google will finally get around to it.

You can help Google get "around to it". I know that all the experts in here know about this one - but I've seen so many beginners (or self-proclaimed gurus) ask this question. I will give you one of the answers that I have experienced.

Signature links. A popular forum where it is well travelled will help you get your page or site indexed a lot quicker. You don't have to wait around for Google. Yes - the ppl that say that Google will get to your site and index it eventually - they are right. but why wait?

In the past, I have had a lot of new web 2.0 props out there as well as pages from my own site (or client's sites) that needed indexed. This is when I point a sig link towards it. If I just waited for Google to come around and index my web 2.0 properties - that could take forever.

I hope this helps answer some questions out there.

Bear in mind that many sites use rel=nofollow in signature links.. in which case you are just wasting your time. Make sure the site you are posting on doesnt automatically add the nofollow tag.

Waste of time. Why bother searchin for followed forums that Google "may" spider.

Submit your new pages to social media sites. Also create an RSS feed of your site and submit it to RSS directories. Do a handful of each, takes about ten minutes.

And if you have a blogger blog thats indexed, just do a quick blog post on there with a link to your new content in it as well.

I think I've posted this before somewhere, but if you really want to get your new website indexed quickly, do the following:
  1. Install Google's Webmaster Tools
  2. Create and upload an xml sitemap, submit this to the webmaster control panel in Google.
  3. Comment on a few high ranking blogs and put the link in your signature in a forum you will comment on.
Using this technique I've found I can get a new site indexed within 48 hours.

A popular misconception - Google does in fact follow nofollow links, it just doesn't count the link as a vote for the destination site. But a nofollow link can still help getting your site noticed by Google.

Side with you, edgray.

In my own experiences, some text backlinks from high PR (above 6) sources, no matter dofollow or not, would get your sites being indexed within 48 hours.

All the best,

In my own point of view, Google still count (I think!) no follow links but they give them a small amount of weight percentage in terms of SERP.

Ok, heres where I come unstuck with the whole Sig link to get indexed faster theory...

I do a search for example for "Mens Silk Tie" in google...
Up pops the results page and somewhere on the list is a webmaster / Fishing / Photography website (delete as appropriate...) These pages have popped up because of a sig link in the forum to a shop selling mens silk ties.

Now heres the killer question...

WHY would anyone go to that site when looking for something else completely??
and even if they did, would they scroll through the whole thread looking for the link to the tie shop??? No!!

As the main main himself says, links are ADVERTISING not OPTIMIZING!

</rant> (thats twice today... I hate Mondays... )

READ what Google have to say about it

They never say that it is not "followed" just that it will gain no "benefit"

And that demonstrates what exactly?

That search engines read hyperlinks and index the pages they point to?
