You got that right chrishirst
The first answer I can't make sense of tbh
As for the answer about the most links wins - well I am guessing you have not read what both Google and Bing have to say about that.
I myself have some search terms related to SEO where I have all the top ten links. Yes they are a little long string but that I din't mind as they are specific and I only need 5 monthly SEO customers so it is quality and not volume I am looking for.
OK back to the original point.
When it comes to SEO, here is what you should do and bare in mind!
Prepare your pages with matching up the result with the query in mind and think to yourself, "would I want to find this for that query?".
If not don't bother go and load it on to some out of date thing elsewhere and stop bothering us, the search engines and all the surfers of the web with inferior crud designed to make life harder and waste all our time.
If on the other hand you would be happy if your Mum or Dad, Your husband or Wife or your Son or daughter find what you have to offer and really feel your page offers a proper answer to a search query, then you are on the right track.
Those who want to help provide the best most relevant quality results, I salute and thank you as you are helping me my friends and my family as well as all surfers, whilst at the same time helping the search engines to.
There are a few simple things you can do to achieve good SEO.
Get your titles right. Target them properly and don't go overboard.
Get your descriptions right and remember in descriptions you can elaborate a bit more.
Get your "keywords" and keyword phrases" most relevant to each page as early as possible in your first paragraph.
Use good "anchor text" links both internally and in your external inbound links off site.
Make sure your "Alt" text for images is keyword rich, but don't go overboard.
Do not go overboard with linking, especially to pages that are not relevant. It is better to have quality relevant links than any others and the best links are ones earned through merit naturally where others choose to link to your wonderful informative useful content.
Avoid using text in images instead of "spiderable" text whenever possible.
Use text in navigation links whenever possible rather than images or drop downs.
Use "titles" in your links so the hover over displays a "not overly zealous" keyword rich pop up box type thing.
Don't be lazy and expect good results from very littlle effort on your part.
Make sure all your pages have different titles and descriptions and make sure you use H Tags in an effectice way to break up your oages tect content.
Use small paragraphs of between 3 and 6 lined to make online reading easier.
Use bullet points effectively - my personal preference is to also use bullet points as hyperlinks with anchor text either as all or part of the link.
Help the search engines to help us all find better what we are looking for and you won't go far wrong!
