Heres a brief run down of my seo tactics.. I am still fairly new to it all and am prepared to take advice and lectures from experts!!!

1) Keyword targetting content on website (once in title and at least 3 times in content).
2) Article directory submission to relevant catagories, link to related content with anchor text.
3) Business directory submission with keywords.
4) Forum posting with anchor text.
5) Social bookmarking / social networking.
6) Plenty of internal links on website (i hear this helps spiders navigate easier).
7) Meta descriptions (will do this soon)
8) Will begin link exchanging with related services soon too.

Thats about it unless anyone WHO REALLY KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT has any other suggestions???

This is all my friend does and he is top 5 a lot of the time on Google for a good variety of keywords!!

I am not an expert, but I think writing quality content that people want to read and link to should be #1

Also, I would discount link exchanges (you DID put it on the bottom

) and be careful that you look closely at where you place those (some are spammy and can hurt your site).

Also, PATIENCE is probably the hardest tactic to follow but I think is one of the most important. IE: I have a fairly new site (less than 3mos) that I am developing now for a highly competitive niche, I don't expect to rank well for competitive keyword terms for a year (maybe longer) so I concentrate on longtails to begin with. This seems to be working well as I am seeing an increase in QUALITY traffic that converts to SALES.

Few suggetions about:

Article directory submission: Do not submit thru mass sub. software like a 500 dire.

Business directory is now worthless, a very old SEO technique. Only few directories are working.

Forum posting Social bookmarking is best but never spam with it.

each of these methods can be implemented in quite different ways... so two SEOnies may do the same thing, but first will achieve top and the other won`t

Pish posh to the naysayers If you listen to everybody who says to discount this and discount that, you woiuld have nothing left. The fact is that any one of those tactics on its own is pretty useless. But the sum total is worht it, because variety counts.

However, some very good caveats from posters here. Not all directories are created equal. Not all article sites are created equal. A single vote across 1000 social bookmarking websites is not as good as 100 votes at Digg, or 100 votes at Reddit, etc.

So in sum, right track, but make sure to lay the tracks right.

Here are some of the factors you need to consider with regards to Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

On-Page Optimization - it deals with the proper use of title tags, meta tags, alt attributes (use when describing images), keywords, description, robots.txt and sitemap.

Off-Page Optimization - it deals with building links (article submission, blog commenting, forum posting, classified ads, social bookmarking and networking, press release and online groups).

I guess you should optimize first your site before you promote it.

Also, do participating to answers site and blog commenting that is related to your site.

Just make sure to create links from relevant and DoFollow sites because Google gives more value on them.

I would concentrate on meta descriptions before a lot of that- getting that right can make the difference if a user clicks on your link or not - as in a good description can lead to more page views. Its all very well being up in the SE' - but if you have a low click through..........
