Ok, I have briefly (very briefly) researched this topic, and can't come to a conclusion as to whether or not it is worth my time, effort, and possibly money (I prefer to use free services) to submit press releases for new products, manufacturers, my website etc... Meaning: does it help any with traffic and SERP's, did you get higher conversion from it etc..
If anyone has any "real" info related to this, I would appreciate it. That means the "you press release help can" comments aren't any help!
Thanks in advance.

I'm not really good in it but as far as I know that is time wasting.
Better directory or article submission

See, I thought web directories (other than a few well placed) and article submissions were a waste of time. So if you are telling me press releases are less valuable than that tells me they are worthless.

Do you have any information or articles from reputable sources (google, matt cutts, etc...) to back that up or are you just trying to get more links from this forum?

IF you have something to announce that is newsworthy then a "press release" is a good way to let the people know about new products etc.
But to fire them out haphazardly is the best way to make sure they get ignored.

I tried it a few times. I didnt find it much useful for me. People care about big stories, or big companies only
But once I had a press release that was showing up on Google News site. That was cool.

Press releases help but you have to find the list of high PR and Google trusted press releases websites

Press Releases are great provided you have something decent and newsworthy to say. An example:
Last year, working for an architects firm, I sent out a PR about our newly designed eco-house, a very hot topic in the architecture world. I sent it directly to 5 top ranking architecture blogs, we got featured on 4, if I remember rightly, and within a week we'd been featured on 400 blogs around the world, gaining a massive number of natural backlinks. The page shot to page 1 on Google for the term "eco house"
This is the best way to use press releases. Posting them on PR sites I would say is pretty useless except for the odd link.

Ok, maybe I should be more specific:
I have a couple of new manufacturers that I will be adding their products (I currently do not offer similar products) to my site and was thinking a press release might help get the word out about it. My objective is more about selling my products than it is getting links from pr and submission sites (not that they hurt if they are respected sites, but I am looking to get targeted traffic).
I see it mentioned several times about being "newsworthy" and the eco house is a great example. Is adding new products to my site newsworthy. Also, my site is only a few months old, should I do a PR announcing its existence now and then work up to products being available?

That's what press releases are for
Start with a "teaser" announcement, "Coming soon", "Watch this space" kind of thing. Create a "buzz" about the product/site, and fire out a couple of updates maybe a week or so apart.

see press release can attract huge traffic but that depends on your content and the site's which you are posting.

Press Releases are quite useful. But depends upon how useful it is and how people find it interesting. I've also seen posting them in several PR sites won't give much positive results. But an informative press release might be helpful enough and also for posting and for posting we shouldn't haphazardly post them in anywhere.
