Junk directories links are junk directories links no matter how many IPs they are spread across.

LOL

Yep Including DMOZ - why would I want to go through all my sites and pages and add a noodp meta tage I have better things to do!

Directories are pretty much tantamount to link farms really, hmm in fact isn't directory another description for a link farm.

No, link farms are very specific in what they are.

A link farm is a linking scheme where ALL the participating sites have to link to every other participating sites. So links "grow" at an exponential rate.

True

But I still regard Diretories as almost the same "almost" I emphasis.

I only ever submitted 1 link to a directory and the only result I got was that for some of my search terms I had this directory was suddenly competing with my own sites for search terms (London SEO or something like that was the one I think) whilst my link got buried amongst a load of others.

So, I figured hmm not much point in this directory submission lark as I can just as easily stick a link back in my own internal newtork and put my sites in the search rankings for chosen pharses rather than give some directory that buries my link amongst a heap of others the search engine placing.

I realise Directories are not link farms but quite honestly they are not far off and in my "very limited" (1 link) experience are not really of thta much use.

Yep, the vast majority of "directories" aren't worth the space they take up on the Internet.
Mainly because they are thrown up by owners who only see them as a means to grab money from site owners who fall for the bunkum.

There are some directories however that are well run and properly managed that do actually send genuine traffic.
Few and far between unfortunately.

Please tell me you are not including Google's beloved DMOZ amongst those "well run directories"?

Definitely not!

A good idea in principle, unfortunately let down by being run by a committee of hundreds.

Many links from same site or same IP are considered as no more than single link so always try to get links from different sites as well as different IPs.

And can you demonstrate this as a fact or is it merely a guess?

I'm not 100% sure but still think that links from the same IP is not so valuable from SEO perspective. Maybe I'm wrong but would like to see more comments.

IP diversity is perhaps a confusion with obtaining a more general diversity of links?

Are 1500 links from quality Ning sites as effective as 1500 links from sites on different IP ranges and platforms for example?

The answer is no.

Why? Trust.
