Hi,

I am just taking my first steps into the world of SEO,

It is not a matter of life or death as my site is just a hobby at the moment but I wanted to know if the way I am planning it at the moment might get me barred from Google.

Does it count as "duplicate content" if I have multiple links on my front page to other pages?

I want to have one link in the navigation div to one of my pages and one picture that links to the same page.

Is this a terrible idea, SEO wise,

Thanks for your time,

Chris

No it isn't "duplicate content"

Nothing unusual there then.

It will make absolutely no difference to "SEO"

A site will only get "banned from Google" by doing stupid and blatant tricks in an attempt to fool the SE algorithm.

No... They are what you call internal links.. Internal links can help robots (eg. googlebot) spider your website easier.. This way they can find new content easier, ultimately helping the indexation of weboages. New or old..

I would also suggest creating seperate webpages for your pictures too. Say, click on the picture on your homepage and link to your other page as you said. But then place the picture on the page you are linking to as well (you may have done this already). Then with that picture, link it to a seperate webpage of its own, showing just the picture.. A lot of traffic can come from picture searches (google pics etc).. I do not know the ins and outs of this on all sites but I use wordpress which makes things like this dead easy..
