Hi,
while doing SEM for websites, blogs place an important role, which type of blog is better, either blog.websitename.com or websitename.com/blog
please suggest,

I have heard this question asked before and wondered myself. So please Chris, do elaborate.......

Well, search engines consider subdomain as a different domain and not a part of a site so using like blog.yoursitename will not be better as not your site or not your blog will get benefited much so it will be better choice to use t as-
yoursite.com/blog as in this way both will get benefited.

I've done blogs in both scenarios, didn't notice a difference when it came to ranking them...

To answer the OP's question..
It depends on what you want.
a subdomain will be treated as a separate domain to google, a subfolder will be treated as part of the original URL.
I like subdomains because IMO they look better.

Well, the question was is one or the other "better" for SEM and as it will make no difference at all, "neither" is the most appropriate answer.
I should have added a comment on the

remark because they simply don't, we have had the "is a 'blog' better than a 'website' " futile discussion" before.
Not many seem to appreciate that a blog is still a website!!

Sure there are a few reasons where you could consider one over the other. Just SEM isn't one of them.
A sub folder can be marketed in exactly the same way that a sub-domain could.

IMO, subdomain is another site in iis, they may be other theme, and not tread as a part of the main site, and my own site use /domain/folder format, and they are good indexed by google.com!

It's better to use folder for blog than sub-domain because subdomain is sees by search engine as different domain unlike sub folder the link juice from index page are also transfer to subfolder like domain.com/blog

Wrong!
http://searchengineland.com/how-chan...pact-seo-12899
And the other main SEs have done exactly the same.
If you link to and from subdomains in the same way as you would link to and from subfolders, the SEs will treat your collection of subdomains as a single site.
"link juice" (how I dislike that phrase) Link value is "spread" by ....
..... wait for it ....
LINKS!! (there is a clue in the name!!!!) NOT by how the site is physically structured

Sounds like selling sub domains is more than a little interesting!

You do realize that "blog" is actually a keyword right? ie: seo blog, computer blog, news blog, twitter blog, it's colder outside than my ex-wifes heart blog, etc.... The term "blog" is searched with a lot of keywords.... So if I had domain: makemoney.com/blog it actually works as a "keyword" right?

Hey Keith
Of course Sir
blog-search-phrase is totally cool - that's my idea of long tail - /blog is erm somewhat "lacking" in imagination was my thinking!?!?!
Baring in mind intelligent use of "two words" is long tail to me, let alone three or four words (or more) perfections.
%?!?! OOH The Scope!

What's more important is backlinks going to your site.
