And to pre-empt your next question.

Yes, that's correct. Spend a LOT of money because you are not going to get anywhere for free!

Very difficult market to tackle, online job searches are already huge. I'm afraid Chris is right mate, it's gonna take money to get a project like that off the ground.

Perhaps you could try and find a niche within the online job search world and focus on just that instead? It would be much easier to rank well for in search engines simply by providing a decent semi-unique service and optimizing for specific keywords. This way your promotion and advertising costs would go down as your competition wouldn't be so fierce.

Just a thought...

Very very difficult to get a footholding in something like the jobs market as there are so many big companies and big sites competing, maybe you could concentrate on a certain niche in jobs, might be a start !

I am in a tough niche as well. It is hard to make it with a lot of competition but I am gaining ground slowly but surely.

wow - I would never have the guts to do that. good luck mate.

If you don't have the $$$ - you might want to do a little venture capitalism and see if you can get some seed money.

I agree with the other posts - you picked a tough and competitive market. However if you are able to provide some type of service(s) - the more useful the better- that others are not providing you might have an edge.

On the other hand in regards to your question, your goal should be to do the very best you can do to promote your site unless you have a lot of money to spend on marketing in which case you can set some real goals.
