Adsense on an Informational Site

I'll be setting up a new site in the near future and I won't be selling anything on it - it will be a lot of "self-improvement" info that people will reference. This is really a passion of mine - so the info will not be from any sources, just things I've learned over the years.

All in all - this will be classified as an informational site. However, I will have adsense on this site - just wondering if anyone has an informational site w/ just adsense on it and how well did you do on it as far as CTR.

I can see people who write reviews on products and they put adsense on their site and get a high CTR - but I haven't heard anything about the ppl that has a mega-site that is pure info and them getting a high CTR w/ adsense.

Is the site going to be an information portal for all types of self improvement or a single theme, quit smoking?

The narrower the theme, the better the ad sense content network ad's which in turn will increase clicks.

Very good point - never really thought about that - but it is going to be a single theme.

Thx for your reply.

Firstly, congratulations on your choice to design a website with unique interesting content that you are passionate about.

Secondly, I wouldn't get your hopes up with the adsense thing, it's very very very difficult to earn a decent amount of cash with adsense. I find that if you are earning a decent amount from it then you should be getting your advertisements from a different source.

Just my opinion though, I know that some people have success with adsense

"Self-improvement" isn't a high paying niche. You should reconsider it, or choose a much more specific topic. High CTR or payout usually depends on your target keywords.

It also depends on where your ads are placed. Make sure you keep track at what spots on your websites are getting a higher CTR than others.

Why??
Not everybody is "blogging" simply to scrape every last penny from adsense and to scratch a "living" from it.

"Blogging" about something you know well, or are passionate about is the way to make sure it doesn't become a chore and will be abandoned when you find out it is NOT the "cash cow" you expected it to be or find out it actually takes time an effort to promote and make money from.

Very good point Chris!

I am writing a couple of free SEO ebooks presently and one of my main points is "Go with what you know, are passionate about and have a distinct interest in", as it's the best way.

Adding ads if you have a subject you are knowledgeable and passionate about will in turn gain clicks on those ads to.

Let me know when you are done with these e-books, maybe I could review and promote for you on my site....

Au contraire mon ami.

Probably the only bit of French I know

It's just the fake and junk bloggers who get on my t... annoy me

The genuine ones who are writing about something they know or care about even if it is done to promote products or a site are actually doing something for real users.
Such things as genuine reviews or overviews of products and services can only be good for everyone concerned.

Imparting accumulated knowledge to others is what keeps the whole process moving forwards, regardless of the subject. This also can add another perspective into the information mix and may begin alternate trains of thought in the readers/listeners.
Merely repeating others is just stagnation.

I don't know any French so you are one up on me!

I agree that the blogosphere is full of scrapers and those wanting to "make money online", but the genuine bloggers are passionate about it. I do it for multiple reasons, but I actually enjoy pounding away on my keyboard day in and day out.
