'Free Traffic System'

Ok, I'm fairly sure I'll get some fairly 'to the point' answers to this question but thought I'll ask anyway as I'm curious:
Has anyone come across this free traffic system which people seem to use to get more backlinks (or similar systems)?
It seems to work by feeding articles which you upload to a number of different blog sites (about 30), giving you around 60 backlinks to your site. Is this at all worth it? Do search engines penalise this sort of thing?
Thanks.

So basically it's article syndication?
No, you won't get penalised.
BUT - and we've had people on here and in other forums talking about how their articles, posted on other sites, outrank their own sites...
If you want to tell us the name of the system, I'd be happy to have a detailed look for you.
Personally, I think most of these "systems" aren't systems at all, just very basic advice on how to get backlinks. If you've ever heard of "Angela's Packets" before, this is a prime example. Billed as dozens of PR 6 - 10 links every month, it turns out (I'm testing the system for a client) to be nothing more than a list of sites on which you can place a profile. Nothing magical at all.

Thanks. The system is http://www.freetrafficsystem.com/ - Being new to SEO/marketing I'm just not sure if it's worth it or not.
You're right about articles outranking a site. I've posted a few articles on ezinearticles and it has already pushed my own site onto the second page of google for my own site name. I'm hoping that this is just because my site is very new (only been marketing it for last 3 weeks) but until I can get anywhere near the top SERP then article links are my only source of traffic and I'd rather get the traffic. Unless people can see my site then I don't see how I would get anyone interested in linking to me.

Let me know how you get on with the system as I would like to trial it myself. Thanks for the share.

Hmmm. So there's two sides to this system - those that feed in articles and those that have blogs and take content from this system.
Firstly, ignore their claims about "jumping to the first page of Google" and increasing your traffic.
There's no reason why you can't benefit from a system like this. Say you write 1 blog article, and this is sent out to 1,000 blogs with your link on it, that's a real easy way to get some great links.
BUT, none of the blogs your article will end up on are going to be GREAT blogs, because the blogs that rank in Google, have the PR and the authority, write their own content. I'm guessing you'll end up on a load of AdSense blogs, blogs put up just for a bit of money making.
So the links are going to be poor links. At best.
Also be careful about pushing your site further down the SERPs...

Cheers for looking into it.
In your opinion, are these extra links worth it if they are of poor quality? i.e. are they really likely to help search engine ranking or will the benefit be just the extra visitors from the blog site?
Yeah I am concerned about my site slipping down the SERP's but article writing seems to be the best way to get the traffic that I need at the moment. Any suggestions on how to prevent myself slipping down the rankings while getting these links/promoting my site?
Thanks!

I always say that ALL links are worth having (except ones from a "bad neighborhood"...) so in that sense it could be a good way to get a lot of low level links quickly...
BUT - most of the people running the blogs in systems like these make their money from things like AdSense and so forth. Google, over the xmas holidays, has absolutely clobbered scores of AdSense webmasters for running the kind of sites in systems like these. Google doesn't like duplicate content in it's SERPs and is trying to remove as much of it as possible. It's also trying to get rid of spam sites, which is kinda what these blogs are, if you think about it.
I'm always up for trying new things though, so I would give it a go... but I would try it first on an unimportant site, to see the outcome. Testing is really the only way you'll ever know for sure.
If you do decide to test, I'd love to hear how you get on so please post the results

Very true on that. I've had client's sites rank let's say on #9 on the first page - I write two articles - one to EZA and the other to GoArticles - and they would actually outrank my client's site and push him to the first spot on the second page.

This has happened to me. Any obvious way around it while still promoting using article sites? ...or just wait until your site pagerank builds?

ok cheers. I'm in two minds about whether to try this...simply because I have only one site at the moment. As you mentioned, I'm wary about slipping down the SERP's any more than I already have. Also, I've heard there is no Google penalty for duplicate content but at the same time if these blogs did have a a higher ranking than my site with my content delievered to them they may all appear above my site in the SERP's for terms which i have used in my articles. hmm...
