On my site I am thinking of adding in a wordpress blog. Isn't having a blog good for jumping up in the Google rankings? I am wondering if I just use a basic HTML format, and add something in every now, like the other content on my site and then it would do the same thing as having a wordpress blog?

I currently use blogspot, but I'd rather have the hits come to my site, and not to blogspot.

Thanks,

Brian

well you can always Switch to Custom Domain (Point your own registered domain name to your blog). its going to be like

blog.yourdomain.com or
yourdomain.com/blog

You can change it in the publishing tab in your blogger dashboard.

A blog is definitely a good way to attract traffic as they have regularly updated content, but don't expect just having a blog to improve your rankings. Blogs take time to build, populate and promote, though the good thing about them is that there are tons of tools to help promote your blog, lots of places to bookmark them and share your info. Be prepared for some work though, blogs don't make themselves.

In answer to your question, I've seen people making "static" blogs from HTML with no blog engine driving them. This can work, but it increases your workload and doesn't allow the same functionality - you'd have to manually sort things into categories, create tag clouds and so forth, not to mention not being able to have an RSS feed.

I'd go for a WordPress blog - simple to use, loads of great templates available and millions of plug ins to help you make your blog a good one.

Right now I currently have a pretty steady amount of traffic coming through my website. If blogged, it will expand our search, and will pop up more frequently throughout search engines. Is that correct? Will wordpress have the same effect has just having a static page that looks like a blog? I dont really care about having comments on there and things like that.

No!

It really depends ON WHAT YOU PUT ON THE "blog" and how well you promote it AND if you can't promote your site properly how do you expect to be able to promote a blog as well?????

The biggest benefit of a blog (for me) is the fact that you can allow people to comment on your articles, thus creating a conversation on your site. If this conversation is good enough, it will create a buzz about your articles and drive more traffic.

To me is is easier to promote a blog because you are constantly putting new information out there and it gives people a reason to come back.

If you just have static pages, after they have been read, why come back?

Just my view....

Do you? Keep going "back" just in case there might be something new to read that is?

you are thinking in one of right direction achieving your goal as obvious this not sufficient as blog popularity takes time but it is right to go for it for long term goal
so i will suggest do this as well as SMO works for both blog and your site it will help achieving your objective quickly.

Actually I use a feed reader to know when new articles are posted. But there are advantages to creating interaction/conversation on your site/blog, of course that is just the way I prefer to build my sites. I get good results from it.

Then again, I am not a hardcore coder like you , so it also makes it easier for me to build sites.

Yep.

There are two basic ways of keeping people reading;

Be well informed and make what you say/write eloquent, interesting and genuine. Thus stimulating their interest

Be controversial and stimulate their annoyance.

I was thinking about starting a blog for my site to help boost Google rankings but now I am not sure that I want to put in the time to write a whole bunch of content and promote the blog in addition to my website

Then don't.

Having a "blog" will NOT, NOT, NOT, NOT, help with "Google rankings".

There is NOTHING magical about blogs.

It is how INTERESTING blogs are linked and promoted by other "bloggers" that make the difference, but having a "blog" just for the sake of it is just a chore.

Just put the same content on your website and just promote the one
