You are correct up to a point. See, blogs are easily crawled because of their structure and uniformity. But is sucks at building PR on the short run if you use your blog like everybody else.
Try some creativity. Build links to other pages of the site through the blog and you'd see a better crawl rate for those pages. If your stuff is good on the blog, you'd get some links and over time some PR. See this Unknown Guy's blog post. If you visit it, You'd see that the page has a PR of 4/10 and the links are nofollowed. But if the links are dofollow and you do some PR sculpting what do you think the impact would be in the long run?
I'm still testing this and I could be wrong. Please enlighten me in any case.
