Say you have a static website. Is including a blog (like an updates section) useful for ranking better in search engines even if the blog will not be where your most useful content is held?

I've heard so much about having regular content being important to how valuable a site is to SE's and have also heard some success stories (I think one on this forum where a blog was the difference between no visitors and page 2 on Google).

"blogs" don't "rank" because they are "blogs", they "rank" because other bloggers link to good content.

"blogs" are just websites. If the same content was on the "main pages" and got the same links what do you think would happen??

ok fair enough.

Let me rephrase though. Does having regularly updating content hold any weight at all in SEO? In my case, it would be far easier to update the blog (being a CMS and just an 'update' section) but it wouldn't be the best content on my site. The best content would be the static stuff.

Not really. The only thing that it may do is help increase visitors only if someone visits your blog and then links to it on something like digg.com

Other than that, It does fark all to SEO ( from what the search engines tell us and experience )

If you write fresh content on your blow with a keyword link point to one of your sites, your site will do well

having a blog section in your site..is consider as a good way of putting fresh contents in your site..the tendencies are : the search engine spider will visit your site most likely, keywords use in the blog article helps you to build link as well as a possibility of helping your keywords rank in SE's, etc...

I have a blog and a website also which i was operating and performing SEO of both the website together. I found my blog ranking much quicker in search engine comparing my HTML website.

But one thing is important in blog that you have to update it on daily basis.

So i Found blog 10 times better than a normal joomla or HTML websites

Blogs are really helpful, but it does not increases your sites rank in the SERP's...since a blog does have a content which acts as a feed to your website and thus if you have your blog linked to your website then there are chances of the crawler visiting your site frequently since due to fresh content updation.

Blog helps you to increase your websites crawl rate..

And if you write interesting posts on your blog then you will definitely get some good backlinks too... Also can get some Diggs or Tweets from social media websites...

Why not to add the blog with some good content? It will solve some problems in ranking and will give some fresness to your site.

In my own experiences, a blog with links to your main site using your targeted keywords as anchor text would be helpful for ranking purpose, especially on a different IP.

Blogs can help you go top in terms of the SERP rankings especially if your blog that is attached in your site is easy to crawl by the spiders in such a way that it loads fast. Spiders love blogs too

Blogs are easy to be maintained and hence give you much time to concentrate on content plus they are easy for Spiders to crawl and leaves no room for designer error
