Hi,

I've heard Chris say on here that often new sites will rank well intitially and then drop in the rankings. Why is this?

just wondering as my site is fairly new and somehow for a very popular search term I'm on page 1 in Bing. Not gettng a huge amount of traffic from it yet mind, but I only realised it yesterday.

cheers.

Because it takes time for the SEs to analyse all the factors, and when you are dealing with the amount of data that search engines deal with it is easier to rank items in reverse order so a "score" of 0 (zero) would be "top billing".

I got a site on page 1 of Google for every London Borough and the acronym SEO within 2 weeks and now nearly three months down the line although many of the number 1 on Google ranks have settled into top 3 or top 5 results I now also have the same for every London Borough and English spelt "search engine optimiser" search term as well as many other London SE0 (change 0 for o) related search terms.

I guess it depends on many factors including trust and whether or not you are providing the best answer to a search query at the end of the day,

As for traffic "Please don't let that bother you!"

Here is why

I got 1 customer from a "Harrow SE0" (change 0 for o) search query.

That customer netted me £1500 plus - if I got 1 customer for each London Borough and acronym SEO I would have made many thousands, even though each Borough and SEO is searched very little.

It is quality not quantity that really counts in most cases unless you are trying to sell the very latest CD or some such similar thing if you get my drift?

I could have targeted simply "SEO" and spent months trying to conquer it and match Wikipedia but which do you think was better for me?

The one search for Harrow SE0 got me a conversion - hundreds for "SEO" - well your guess is as good as mine as I do not want to pay the price on servers resources to find out!

after sometime your site becomes old and new sites turn up.. so they will be ranked.... the main reason would be content upgrading.. if you keep adding good content and do seo, your site wil be on top.

Yes a good rank straight off isn't going to last.

Yes, i too think that this is the process which lets the spider understand the website in a perfect manner about what exactly the website speaks about and do it really helps users in finding the information they are looking out for.

you are probably conveying Myth about such new website rankings..
There is no such type of effects on new websites.
You can not come to the point after analyzing 3-4 websites.

I'm sorry but you need some more research about this topic.

WRONG. It is an "effect" that has been around since Search Engines first made an appearance on the Internet. And no doubt it will be around for a lot longer.

It also occurs when you first start promoting an pre-existing site that has had no real promotion put into it.

I have seen the same situation for most of my new sites. But after 6 months my ranking again jumped to previous position. Most people talk about sandbox. I think sandox really exists.
