What do you think of using XML sitemaps? are they help in indexing our web pages faster in search engines?

Not sure if they guarantee faster indexing, but it certainly helps the SE with what to focus on indexing. You can set in the XML sitemap how often a certain page is updated, but I think Google, Yahoo, etc just about make up their own frequency for visiting by their own methods..

You could ping the SE that you have new content, but then again as said above - I'm sure it depends on alot more than just a Sitemap to when the SE visits you..

Most of SEO companies suggests to have a xml sitemap for your site...in fact, they emphasize on having xml sitemaps or robots.txt files as according to them , its a seo technique and they charge for it...however, i know generating xml sitemaps or robots.txt files can be done in seconds...but still are these companies making fool of non-technical clients?

Using XML Sitemaps for providing information to Google about our site. In which we provide a list of all pages of our website. By creating a XML Sitemaps Google crawl easily all the pages of that site in this way it helps Google to find all the pages in a site

I agree with Chris as they are "fudge." But I comply and make them anyway for every site I design.

Both have different purposes.

They are an additional tool to help the search engines when they crawl a site.You can use a free scripts to generate xml or text based sitemaps.

Both these serve different purposes. XML is meant for crawlers while the HTML serves Humans. If you have some tricky navigation, I suggest using both forms of sitemaps. Leave a clear link to the HTML sitemap at top level or site wide navigation.

I have now idea how that is useful or not, but in nay case that is somethiog what some SE recommend to install, so why don't you want install that?

i think xml sitemap is very important,we can send the xml sitemap to many search engines,they can help website in search engines ,and html sitemap is help use to view our website's contour

I introduced an XML sitemap to my site, because Google only indexed a thousand out of six thousand pages, and guess what, no change. So XML sitemaps aren't any help for SEO. They
should get your new content out much faster, thats the idea of sitemap, that you indicate how
often a web page changes.
