it is hardly an one month old website and completing against websites which are online from at least 8-12 years. the main keyword has competition around 25,800,000 in Google. What should be our ideal strategy for this website?

write as articles as you can, also post to forums, and submit to directories.I usually submit to 100 directories a week

try promote in social bookmarking such as facebook, twitter, digg, stumbleupon, and many more sites you can find in google ..
but, better to choose dofollow social bookamrking sites ..

In my experience Google loves fresh sites, so having a RSS feed/sitemap and properly written site; you will get very quickly to be listed in top. Then few hundred backlinks will do the trick to keep you there.
I haven't seen any difference to get those backlinks from free internet directories or spend much more time/money to write articles. Properly selected keywords has been more an issue. So, if you want to be in top some keywords you have selected and those are appearing only in your home page Title, you should build a lot of backlinks to keep you up on those when creating content pages with different keywords.

liek chrischrist said usually you make a tool or application within the niche to get users to interact with your site which gives you more traffic and people backlinking naturally. You can also give out free services or products.

It's easy.

Figure out how many pages each of the top 10 websites in Google have indexed.
Create more pages on your website related to your target market than your competition.

This is assuming, of course, that you've actually done keyword research for each page, your site structure is clean and indexable, that you use intelligent and relevant anchor text in your navigation and body text, and that you're not using shady or spammy methods on your site.

Is this guaranteed? Of course not, but it'll get you a lot further than most of the other methods you hear on here.

First check the keywords which you targeted for your for website see the search volume and competition so that it will easy to rank for those keywords. Definitely it would be the best permutation and combination for a website to rank.

If you want to get good position in little time then spend a big amount of money otherwise get quality backlinks and hire a professional SEO and be patient because your website will come up gradually..There is no short-cut to compete with such aged sites.

Firstly, don't go for that keyword. Find something easier and target that, then over time aim for the big one.

Say your business is for a casino. Casino is a pretty competitive word, as is online casino. So go to the Google Keyword Tool, and see what else people are searching for and then target the less competitive phrases.
