I live in Australia. I have a .com.au domain and If a host my website using an American web hosting company, will that affect anything? will that affect the way google will index my website?
Absolutely not, indexing is the same no matter where the server is located.

It will not totally effect the way of indexing of your site in google because no matter what is your hosting company as long as you do a good SEO for your site, it will be index in google.

Thanks for the replies guys. i was just wondering since someone told me that hosting overseas will affect how Google's spider bot picks me IP up and sticks it in a 'geographical' database in which it produces your website in its search results and having an U.S based IP address could potentially lead to losing customers/visitors/MONEY. I'm no expert but I don't think it should make much difference where you host your site.
