I recently watched a video on "link stacking" where the author discusses stacking links on top of natural links (links in content) by using sites like squidoo, hubpages, article submission sites, etc.. to link to the site that linked to you, essentially stacking links on the link to you. His claim is that this will somehow make your natural link even more valuable because you point other sites to your link.

Not sure I explained that properly, but has anyone ever heard of doing this, does it seem like a logical way to get the most out of a natural link?

Thanks in advance for "real" answers

The first mistake was that the author assumes "natural links" are one that are in content.
I guess the whole thing would go downhill from there on.

I think you'd be better off doing that to your own page rather than someone else's, if you were to do it at all. In all probability, your link is going to be only one many on that page, so you'll effectively be doing it for all links on the page. I think any benefits would be minimal at best.

Actually, I guess that is my mistake, he said "natural" and I thought that meant links in the content of a page with good anchor text and surrounded by text, am I wrong on that? As opposed to sidebar, footer, signature, and comment links I guess that is what I thought he was referring to.

So, if the link is one of only a few and the page has decent PR it would be worth it?

I already do that for my own pages, but his concept of making the link more valuable somehow was what intrigued me.

"Natural" links are ones that you have no part in creating other than making the page available to link to.

But it's just another dumb idea that's on a par with "link wheels" etc.

Get crap links, then get more crap links to point to the first lot of crap links to make them slightly less crappy.

It's just heaping (not stacking) more useless work on top of useless work.

What the hell is wrong with getting decent links to your own site in the first place????

Or is that far too simple an idea to attain "guru" status??

Get a cup of tea and calm down Chris. I am on the same page as you with "natural" and I thought you already knew that from previous conversations here.

If the link is "natural" (something I had nothing to do with) and is from a higher authority and related niche, I would call that a **** good link (above decent), and the concept of linking to that page that links to you was new to me, I have never done it.

Second, I do get decent links to my site(s) already and that is not what I was asking.

Would there be something wrong with creating more links to a page that links to you (from other sites)? Would it somehow make the link more or less valuable? Could it actually gain you more traffic by sending people there from other sites and they might clickthrough to your site?

I am not familiar with link wheels so I don't know what that means.

I know I haven't been here in a few weeks, so grab some tea, I will grab some more coffee and we can chat

The rant wasn't at you Keith, just a general one at the SEO "expertgurumaster" types with their cranial lobes jammed tight up to their Gluteus Maximus.

The ones who the newbies and the wannabies soak up their outpourings like it's the elixir of life. (No names mentioned to protect the guilty)
