Just wondering where I can get a tool that can run automatic tweets. Also - can you get it for free or do you usually have to pay?

Please don't spam your automatic self promoting spam affiliate crap out on Twitter automatically! Try using Twitter when you are online!

Spot on.

I recently took a course in Social Media Marketing. The guy that ran the course has a really impressive portfolio of campaigns done using Twitter, and the first thing he said was: DO NOT waste time with automatic tweets.

The whole point of Twitter is connecting with people, connecting with your potential customers. Everyone is sick of having spammy auto tweets all day, and they are getting ignored.

A good case in point: a friend of mine, a holistic healer, signed up to this system called Twittollower. It guaranteed thousands of followers in her niche. Which she got. She then started the usual marketing tweets, very spammy, and from a following of several thousand, got zero uptake.

She then signed up to a system offering a similar kind of thing, but this time focusing on lead generation. Same results.

Those that are havign success from Twitter are using it as it should be, by using it as a tool to connect with people, not just firing out automated marketing filled tweets.

Use tweetdeck in combination with autotweet, if you have actual friends then they will retweet and are more likely to view your posts. Tak a couple of minutes a day to look at their posts also.

@edgray,

I agree with what your friend has suggested. I think retweeting is all wasting our time. its better to search followers who are looking for us and lets them follow us.

Spot on Ed! I went through a period of time where I used some following services and followed everyone that followed me, what I ended up with was a stream full of bots.

Recently I unfollowed EVERYONE (over 3k people) I was following, then gradually started following those that I actually interacted with, commented on my blogs, and the ones I wanted to hear what they said. I have a new found love for Twitter, and while I lost about 1300 followers, I imagine most were people using programs to automatically follow and unfollow people, so I don't want them following me any way!

24% of all tweets are generated automatically, so it's obviously something that happens and it happens a lot. I don't think there is anything wrong with automated tweets, per se, but it all depends on how you're going to use your Twitter account.

For example, most of my Twitter content is automated, but I don't just spam my own content continually. In fact, 99% of the links I share are to other websites (though that number would and will be lower when I have a chance to produce more content regularly). In addition to the automation, however, I also use my Twitter account to interact socially with other people in my market.
