Ranking better on Yahoo

Hi all. I've always been curious about something. In all my years of designing and marketing sites, I've noticed that while my sites usually do very well on Google and Bing/MSN, they always receive much lower rankings on Yahoo. So I usually rank 1-5 for "example item" on G & B, but rank 45 on Y. It's always like this! Because my sites have received a high amount of traffic, I never really minded it much. But when it comes to maximizing the effort and squeezing out as much traffic as possible, that additional Yahoo traffic would certainly be nice. So the question is: Are there things that Yahoo especially likes when it comes to SEO? Things that should be done specifically for better Y rankings?

If found almost the opposite.
i rank higher on bing and yahoo than google.
Then again, i think yahoo get their results from bing anyway now.
For example,
"live support software" search on bing gives me pos #5
The same on google almost doesnt rank.
Its evidently due to the way everyone targets google for SEO.
Considering bing & yahoo give me loads of hits , Im happy that people target only google most of the time.

Thanks, but that really doesn't help me. Also, Google's share of search is more than double what Yahoo and Bing's is, so ranking on Google will give you "loads of hits" x 2....which is what my sites get.

I suppose a few factors will come into play with your placements.
- Different SE's mean different way of ranking
- Competitors , Maybe you have more on bing and yahoo.
While, yes i agree that google have more hits than yahoo and bing. This isnt a MAJOR difference , Bing + yahoo still ='s MILLIONS of impressions.
So please, dont underestimate these two.
Also, Bing is gaining ground quite quickly. Mainly due to no so many ads, but because they dont force feed you ads like google seem to do nowadays.
Google is good, but people are migrating.
All i can suggest is make sure your keywords are accurate and your content is relevant.
Bing and yahoo seem to score higher for whats on the site than google does.
Google seem to use other metrics. So optimising a site for google could lead to bad results of everything else.

If you read my post carefully, I have no problems ranking on Bing. It's Yahoo that I'm inquiring about.
"So optimising a site for google could lead to bad results of everything else." What? Out of politeness, I'll withhold comments.
Anyone else want to give this a shot?

In order to rank in yahoo you should pay attention on On-page optimization by using descriptive page titles and page content. Yahoo do values more on page content in ranking sites on their search results.

Build the site for REAL people. Promote the site for REAL people and ALL the search engines will treat the site/pages equally.

This is very strange. What I have found is that Google and Yahoo! seems to be spewing somewhat similar results.
For me, what worked with Yahoo! is good content. On Page SEO has a better impact on Yahoo! according to my experience.

I think it depends upon the algorithm of search engines. May be yahoo is good at its algorithm that can do much better for getting good ranking.

Of course, Yahoo counts both do follow and no follow links; not unlike Google that only counts Do Follow backlinks.

I thinks do with SEO tehniques (on page and off page) to increase ranking in search engine ...
On Page Optimization :
select and improve keyword in url, title, pages, and keyword tags ..
Off Page Optimization :
article submission
forum submission
press release submission
social bookmarking
social networking

That is interesting. I think that might be the reason.
You probably have more competitors on yahoo.

Yahoo and Bing gives more weightage to Backlinks. The more good quality backlinks your site has, your site gets higher positions.
Google has several other criterias along with backlinks thing. It check content relevance, keyword density, site load speed(recently added), pagerank and several other things.
Therefore, it is very rare to expect same kind of results in Google and Yahoo.

it only proves that different search engines has their own unique algorithms (I don't know what are the differences, only search engine knows)
Also in my experience, I rank well on Yahoo than on Google and Bing.
I just keep on building quality backlinks, hope to see a good result as soon as possible.
