I just saw a website of one my friends. The site is ok. It has a TBPR of 5/10. About 300 good backlinks and some quality content. But due to a limitation of the CMS, his H1 tag is repeated in all the pages and he's worried whether he's cannibalizing his keywords. Most of his target keywords are on the H1 tag.

I went through many articles on this but came up with nothing conclusive. Any thoughts on this can be helpful for us all.

Well, if he has the same H1 tag for all the pages, that`s not a big problem, but the problem might be with ranking the page that needs to be ranked. Kind of like, if there are 20 pages with the same H1, how Google is going to know which one deserves the best ranking. There are keywords meta tags and other on page optimization factors of course, but I would change the H1 on different pages to be different, if possible.

"cannibalising keywords"??

It really isn't going to make that much difference to anything search engine related. It's certainly extremely poor for accessibility, but for SEO it will make very little practical difference at all.
