Google AdWords Keyword Tool

Right,
I am currently very frustrated with this tool. Me and a friend have recently created a new site offering "free poses" for people in the CGI (3d market)
According to google, "Free Poses" gets 8100 global searches. We are now second for that keyword in USA and according to a few traffic stat counters, are not showing any incomming traffic from the search engine.
That is approximatly 266 searches per day. Being second we would expect at least a 10 clicks, yet we have received none.
Is this tool crap? It seems from this experiance, the tool cannot be trusted one bit?

You maybe second but there are 9 other choices for people to click on on that google first page, would you click on your result when compared to what the others are showing?

In this case, Yes. Very much so.
Even if there are 9 other choices, the amount of traffic we have received is 0. Not even 1.
I think Google are using this tool to make more money and not to inform people. It shoudlnt be trusted.

Careful what you say, no need for abuse like that...
With regards to the sites position, it must be showing top on firefox for him due its memory in searches. I just instructed him to use another browser and search and sure enough its 9th.
We are just waiting for the sites meta description to update, google is taking its time to do so...
My theory still stands that the adwords keyword tool is inaccurate and used for their own benefit rather than to inform.

If you came up on the first page for "Joomla management systems" you would get clicks wouldn't you with what is on your description, you are coming up on first page for "free poses", do you think those people are searching that term to look for joomla management systems? Because that is what they see, there are 9 other sites with relevent descriptions to the search, then there is your site waffling on about poxy joomla, which do you think people will click?
You know which people click, it aint the one going on about joomla is it.....

ALL keyword search tools are is an INDICATION of the volume over a previous period. IT IS NOT an EXACT count of current traffic.
AND It is meant for use with purchasing adwords traffic it does not mean in any way shape or form that you will definitely see SERP refferal traffic for that phrase.
BTW for me, your site doesn't appear in the first FIVE pages of results.
You are simply using the wrong tools in the wrong way and expecting miracles.

Take Google Adwords tool and the search based keyword tool. both show different results for same search phrases. You take wordtracker, it shows you some other figure. The thing about the tools, especially the keyword tools, is that you can never be sure of it. Take what you see with a pinch of salt.

You know what, I really don't rely too much on this tool. There is a keyword for which my website is on the first position on Google and Yahoo and the tool shows a certain XXX number of searches BUT when I check the traffic stats in Google Analytics, the number of visits is very less.
Don't know whether to trust this tool or not?

Just because "tools" suggest there are xxx searches doesn't mean that your particular pages are going to get any visitors at all.
Consider this:
How many times do you search for those words or phrases without clicking through to any of the results?
Now multiply that the number of people who are also chasing the same traffic.
Getting the picture yet?

I would say that 25 percent of the time the answer I am looking for is included in the first page of google results, so I don't need or bother to actually click on any of the links, ie I search and the answer is shown in the results page, so no clicks from me 25 percent of the time.

Do you only bid keyword "Free Poses" ?
If you want to get more traffic from google ADs , you should big on more relevant keywords.
Adwords tool will display relevant keywords when you search with "Free Poses", put them in your bid campaign. You will get traffic indeed.
I'm using adwords tool too, it works well.

This may come as a bit of a shock to you, but each result page of google has around 9 other results other than yours, you may find, heaven forbid, that people are clicking on one or more of the 9 or more results on that page, regardless of whether your 1st or 10th the odds are one in nine that yours will be clicked just on random clickings, now think about what the searchers see when you come up on that first page and decide if yours is the most likely to be clicked compared to the others.

I have registered just to answer your question.
I am an experienced webmaster now and I relate to your dilemma when I was new to all this.
You my friend have grossly misunderstood the way things work.
1. Search for "free poses" does throw 8100 global searches. But, its for the match type set to "global" which means it counts for every search on google that contains the word "free" and "poses". For all we know that number could include results for "free sex poses", "free yoga poses". See what I mean?
2. Set the match type set to exact and search for "free poses". What do you see? It gives 140 global searches per month only. Its a dead duck, Infact the US searches are probably closer to 0. And god knows for what geographic location your website is optimized for.
Considering all this your end result of 0 is perfectly understandable.
I am sorry, but that's how it is. Keep working on better keywords and all the best.

Bottom line - you have a site. What would you type in to find your site? Put yourself in the searcher's shoes.

The result show by such keyword result tools like Google Adwords just give you the idea on how much traffic you MIGHT (not WILL) recieve by ranking in that keywords. Its data is based of course on the previous search query volume in a given particular time.

You need to check out the Google traffic estimator tool. It shows no traffic for the keyphrase "free poses". Sorry, you might need to try a different keyphrase.
How about "3D model"? It's showing some hits every day on traffic estimator. Probably you should make a 3D model site and give away the poses on the site.
