Don't publish your site right from the start, build at least 20 content articles under a strong category tree. This mean spread those 20 articles, 1-2 articles in each category. Make sure every category has an unique description.

Got our site indexed in 6 hours, with 60 indexed pages from start and level 2 deep links crawled and indexed.

not really very fast if you've got to write 20 articles beforehand!! That would take a good few days just to get those together, a couple of weeks if you want the articles to be any good!!

If you want to get your site indexed quickly, without all that effort, there's a much easier way:

1) install Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics
2) Submit an XML sitemap to WT
3) comment on some high ranking blogs with your link.

24 - 48 hours maximum index time - a darn sight quicker than writing at least TWENTY articles!!!!

I dont understand why people seem to think it takes so long to get your site indexed.

Even using a free tool that submit syour site to 20 ish SE's is good enough for a 48hr turn around.

Submitting directly to google and as adgrey said, use the webmaster tools. Youll be indexed in no time.

It's not about only indexing speed but also how deep your pages are indexed. Having over 100 websites and watching them getting indexed in many different ways surely thought me some final conclusions.

Indexed in 8 hours its not a very big deal but starting with 60 pages and pages 2 level deep is something.

Submitting to search engines or only site map is not enough for fast and deep indexing.

A first tip is to make your website loading faster

if it loads so slow, after a certain limit, google will not index it properly.

edit : after 15 seconds i gived up, doesn't load.

I think it is good practise to actually have a reasonable amount of good content before you go online, but getting indexed fast is pretty easy anyway regardless which ways you do it.

But what if it is about a web directory? How can you have good content written while you have just created the categories and nobody submitted until now? Isn't the best way to use Google Webmaster Tools and start promoting it in blogs/forums/directories?

^Some landing pages perhaps, ie free web directory listing, top 100 directories, maybe some articles on seo stuff, hell I just done a page on toilets so it's possible to write about anything.

Intuitive and straightforward navigation as well as a good structure of your information of your info is enough. You don't need any fancy tricks or to write dozens of articles. A sitemap IS enough to tell Google exactly what pages are in your domain, no matter how "deep" they are.

Speaking of "deep", it really doesn't matter how "deep" the pages in your site are, provided the navigation is good, humans and bots will find them.

Ive had pages very deep in a site thats been indexed.

Its in googles interest to index as much as it can.

Google bots will go 4 clicks deep, thats the limit.
If they come in from a link then it is 4 from there, if they come in on the portal, its 4 from there.
And it's not in googles interest to index the whole internet as most of it is crap.

This is news. How sure are you on this? Can you point to some document/article/whatever saying such is such? I'm just curious. I just want to know some more.

As long as your website navigation is search engine friendly, you will never have any problem in getting the site indexed.

You can prove this? How can you explain Wikipedia then? And the BBC? Squidoo? DMOZ? Yahoo Directory?

"Bots" will go as "deep" into a site as they need to or are sent by the datacentre.

The "4 click rule" (which is not a rule of course) is not a physical limit set by search engines.

It is simply a law of diminishing returns. The less the page is linked to by the site (or externally) the less "important" it is. So the "nearer" the page gets to an "entry" page (NOT necessarily the "home" page) the more "importance" get passed on to it.

A bit of simple maths using a logarithmic scale

each -> is a link and each page has 10 links
A -> B -> C -> D
page 'A' has an "importance" value of 100 so passes 100/10 to B
B = 10 so passes 10/10 to C

and we end up with D having an "importance" value of 0.1

There are no "rules", as I keep stating, common sense and logic and a bit of mathematics will tell you all you need to know!!
