There is no such thing as a "sandbox"

Your site is probably new or/and has poor quality incoming links.

Would this trigger a sudden downfall in indexed pages though?

Certainly can, as can the normal day to day fluctuations of the datacentres.

There is nothing useful to be gained by caring about the number of "indexed pages" Google shows.

I have read that getting links from respected high pr sites can get your site out of the sandbox - or new website penalty if you prefer. I have read a thread in a different forum where someone claimed to use ezine articles to do this - can't say whether it works.

The general advice is to keep building links in a "natural" fashion.

Yeah the more incoming ( relevant ) links will probably make google care more about your site and probably index it more often and deeper.

When i say relevant, I mean if your selling arts and crafts stuff, Dont have your link on roller coaster or football websites.

Try to have inbound links from other arts and crafts blogs, sites, directories etc.

Why not???

Don't people who play or watch football like arts and crafts?

Don't people who like arts and crafts watch or play football?

^of course they don't, people that like arts and crafts are tree hugging liberal gays, people that like football are red blooded hetrosexual males, he would probably be better off exchanging links with gay sites and things like that.

Don't be panic. Just keep on building quality and unique content.

And get more trusted links for your site.

You will get out of it if you keep on performing good.

Well. Sand box or no sand box what worked best for me is forget all about it and go forth with my business of spreading the word, building links and updating content. If you stick to the basics right, you are going to get out of there sooner rather than later.

how could you say ? sandbox exists. yes it could be a reason given site may not have quality links. so it may have been de-indexed.

No it does NOT. You have just explained WHY the effect occurs.

BUT it is NOT a "quarantine" area of the index that sites/pages are placed into before being allowed into the "main population".

It is simply that they have to earn their place or prove they are "worthy" of being shown to Google's customers.
Certainly if the site/page gains the momentum by gathering links from pages that are "trusted" by Google they will make ground quicker, which demonstrates once again it is NOT a fixed incubation period but more of a probationary period, where "good behaviour" gets rewarded and "poor performance" leaves it stranded.

Depends on why it was "sand-boxed". Many things can cause this; most probably have to do with over-optimizing a site or using shady SEO tactics, such as search spam, etc.

How do you know your website is sandboxed? If your website is sandboxed then you have to wait min for 30 days & you have to do regular niche marketing.. The main thing is the content on your website is should be the 100% unique.. Do this all things regularly & get your website out from the sandboxed.. If possible then post here your sandboxed website link & tell me how do you come to know that your website is sandboxed..

There is no such thing as a "sandbox"

I had a site that started life on p7 and stayed there for about 7-8 months. I had not over optimised the site and had built virtually NO links to it (the customer wanted it on the backburner). Suddenly at about the 7-8 month mark it started rising up through the pages and is now p1 - still with very very few links.

To me, if the website wasn't sandboxed, it had some sort of new website penalty. Whatever term you use, the effect was much the same.
