hello

new to this game so i wanted to ask the pros..
We are a south east asian based supplier of herbal meds ..the site is less than 2 months old and we need to get more sales via more eyes, upsell xsell etc..

shopping cart is a fancy template over os commerce and so far im pleased ( i dont know any better )

Am starting to get my hands dirty with seo / marketing ...

wanted to see is using Header SEO with Ultimate SEO and google analytics is over kill or redundant in any way?
any other channels i should explore?

i dont believe in overnight magic but am a firm proponent of optimizing to achieve desired outcomes..

comments, concerns, cuss words?

SEO is a fairly simple thing really.
People make it sound harder than it is.

Some very simple things to get your page ranked and searchable are:

- Get backlinks to your site, Have your site reviewed by comparison / review sites for your industry, Have people link back to you

- Submit to directory's etc

- Research for what people will be searching for in google etc and make sure you use those phrases in your website , But dont over do it.

- Use the title and alt attributes for images , links etc.

- Install google analytics's ( just so you can see what google sees )

- Dont use duplicate meta descriptions and page titles on your different pages.

- When you launch a new product, Blog about. Twitter about it, Release a press statement.

- Most importantly, Insure your site is USEFULL. Make sure people find what they need on your site and its simple to navigate.
If your page is of no decent value then searchengines will see it that way too.

There are no magical SEO ways to do things, It all depends on how saturated your market is.

While the Keywords and Description meta tags are not used much nowadays, It doesnt hurt to use them as some SE's do use them to match keywords to content.

Using a live support tool also helps generate extra sales as people can have their questions answered quickly.
( While i am biased as i run such a company that sells it, I have to state that it does work.. )

Google Analytics is not a "SEO tool" certainly in can be used to determine how effective your optimising and marketing is, BUT you need to know how to optimise and promote.

The osCommerce "SEO plugins" you propose to use are simply "tweaks" to the software, not something that will automatically make the system Search friendly.

YOU still need to know how to optimise for search and how to market your products to your target audience.
