I'm looking for recommendations for tools that will automate Google SERP monitoring for several websites my company owns. The ideal solution would allow me to generate monthly stats based on the rankings and export them into Excel.

Now why would you want to do something so useless on a scale that will very likely get your IP banned from ever accessing Google?

On the contrary!

You obviously don't understand that:

Rankings can change on a minute by minute basis.
Rankings can be different for every person.

AND
Google will block IPs that are sending automated queries AND in some cases could penalise sites that could be demonstrated to be connected directly to the the queries.

We don't necessarily need to be 100% scientific about it. All we require is a rough indication of our current positioning. It's something we only check a couple of times a week. So we're not going to be hammering the living daylights out of Google's servers.

That's lucky! 'Cos "rank checking" is about the most unscientific thing you could be doing!

You may as well use Alexa to monitor your traffic, or the SGB to calculate the value of your site!

I do see the point you're making. But what we are really checking for is consistency. If our website drops out of the first half-dozen results (or the first page on Google for that matter), then we need to know about it. But maybe it's a fools errand if rankings fluctuate as wildly as you're stating.

What kind of company is this? I hope it isn't a fortune 500 company!

I think you should be monitoring your conversion rate seeing that's what allows your wonderful company make money.

No, No all you NEED to know or care about is if your "revenue streams" from search sources stop delivering.

Conversions are what you should monitor, NOT the volatile vagaries of search engine rankings.
By reacting to such fluctuations you are equally likely to be harming your promotional efforts as well helping them.

All I ever worry about is pages served increasing every month and uniques increasing, if that doesn't happen there is something wrong as 1,000s of newbies to the internet come online everyday.

Hi I'm using
rankranger
In order to track and monitor all my search engine results page (SERP)
This is the best monitoring tool I highly recommend you try it at least for one month
in order to see results you will be able to export them into Excel

WebCEO is good system for all SEO actions. Your rankings are a general indication for potential referrals to your sites, so monitoring them is prudent - good call. Disregarding your rankings, as others have advised in this thread, is tantamount to disregarding your site's potential for attracting traffic from the search engines. Poor rankings or sudden changes to your rankings indicate poor referral potential. In such cases you need a backup plan for maintaining incoming visits to the sites.

Take a wholistic approach to your reporting. Include the conversion rates in your reports or whether the referrals from the search engines are resulting in quality visits, not 20 second load and bail visits. Such assessments give your reports more value than a simple ranking summary.

Was thinking of getting a tool like this, but never thought it could affect so much on the site and even can be penalized, by the way as of now i use google analytics to monitor my sites visitors and performance but with serp i still do it manually.

chrishirst is a huge douche, why would anyone visit this forum.
Obviously you need to monitor your position. If you wait until your revenue drops off you are screwed. This is the most useless forum on the web

There you are then another one who does NOT actually understand the slightest thing about marketing.

So what do you do when ranking drops off, but revenue doesn't??

Should you start frantically changing things to get the "rankings" and then revenue drops off?
