strange SEO optimised urls

Hi:

A search engine marketing company is trying to sell us a so-called optimised CMS. The CMS however, produces urls like these in Google:

http://asperience.nl/aspsite3/DigiFo...256F6C0056D5BD

http://asperience.nl/aspsite3/DigiFo...2571DC00352007

So no nice clean keyword-URLs. They see this is more handy.

Can anybody enlighten me on this? Are keywords in the URL not important anymore. Why would they do this?

thanks for your help, appreciated!

They NEVER have been.

But those URIs are abysmal from a usability and marketing point of view. How the hell would sales staff explain that over the phone.

Gonna be a real pig to market that software, we randomly generate long urls out of your nice easy ones using random letters and numbers, maybe it does it each time bots visit to create more pages, albeit duplicate content?

Well, the advantage of keywords in URL is that even by taking a look at the URL alone, reader will easily know WHAT THE LINK IS ALL ABOUT.

It looks like those URI's come from a Lotus/IBM system... probably Lotus Notes?

That URI format has been used by Lotus for as long as I can remember, you'd need to contact IBM/Lotus to see if their system offer alternative methods.

Use of Keyword in the URL is important because it will be easy for the user to navigate in various categories and pages of the web site.

Dynamic URL's have no SEO value at all. Having a keyword in the URl is very important from usability and trust point of view.

Ask your SEO company to fix it, I dont understand whats the point in such a weird CMS when so many great softwares are free to download.
