Don't use social media, social networking sites, social bookmarking techniques expecting to get good SEO results. Social media in general is done basically to drive traffic, NOT for SEO.
Most social media, social networking, and social bookmarking links are nofollow. The few that are followed links (like lots of your social media profile pages) RARELY give you the opportunity to give your own link text.
Basically the links on social media sites are simply the URL pointing to your site... Or some shortened URL pointing to some page/post... neither of which carry link text containing your targeted keyword phrases. Without link text, these links do basically nothing to help you rank for any particular keyword phrase. They are keyword agnostic, because they don't have keywords in the link text (unless your URL is keyword rich in which case the SEs "might" map those keywords in your URL and consider them the link text assuming they are using word separators like hyphen).
All these links do is pass a little PageRank/link juice to your URL, and we all know that the PR of your URL has VERY little to do with how your URL ranks for a particular keyword phrase. |
