I've heard that Article Submission is the way to go for SEO stuff... What is the best way to go about the whole process?

Best to have a service write the articles for you and submit them?

or to write them yourself and have them submit?

or to do it all yourself?

what are some good, reputable companies that offer these services?

If you can write and your own and you understand the process of SEO then it would be better if you write it by yourself and also submit it on your own. But if you have lots of budget and no time to do it just hire and article writer and let them also submit the article.

Article submission aids you in SEO but not to a massive degree.

What not to do:

Do not use automated software that submits your articles to 100's + sites, this will have a negative effect on your SEO and in if done to excess will get you penalized.

Here's what to do:

Choose only the top 10 article directories and only post your articles there.

Most of the good directories are free. I never found any paid directory. You can use any free directory for submissions.

Article directories are great, but only use ezines because it's the best and you don't want to flood 10 directories with the same article. If you don't know how to write then hire somebody. Sites like Rentacoder.com and guru.com have tons of freelancers. Whatever you do hire a native English speaker. 400-500 word articles usually run from $10 - $25 each. Remember, you get what you pay for.

It depends on your goal with your articles...using only one directory is ludicrous...
And hiring writers that are any good can run into some big dollars before you know what your ROI will be....

If you can not write, then you will have to consider investing money before you know if your idea is going to work...

Having your house painted by a pro outside will cost about 2 grand here in Florida...You can do it your self in a couple days...
How many new marketers make $1k a day on the net?

I wouldn't pay anyone to submit them... You can do that yourself. Writing them is not hard if you know your niche, can spell and use correct grammer, and can write interesting articles others would want to read from 250-1000 words.

EzineArticles.com is probably the best article submission site on the planet. If you can submit 10 articles that do not require edits from their editors, they will give you platinum status for free which gets your articles approved in only 2-3 days instead of 2-3 wks. And it also allows you to schedule those articles to go live on particular date/times.

Article submission can be useful for targeted traffic, and in some cases, a well placed backlink. I find that it works well for me because I'm getting a backlink from a relevant article, and my article ranks, so it gives me targeted "organic" traffic.

Article content depends on related topic and also from SEO point of view unique content is most important for search engines. If you can't write it, you have to hire a content writer.

From the article submission easy to can target your website traffic.. but content should be in quality... If you cant write quality content just suggested with content writer.. but don't publish spam content..

I have used the article directories and the so called submission service for quite some time. But I don't believe that it is a good way for good SEO or to earn traffic if you go about without giving it much thought.

My argument is this. Why should I spend some considerable amount of my time and energy to write and edit an article to feed the index of somebody who don't give a **** about my website and give me only a link that most probably will end up not showing up at all? You see, article directories have uniform structures and it's very easy for search engines to identify patterns and devalue links that we insert with our articles. Some article directories nofollow the links within the articles.

What I suggest is this. Write a great article. Put it on your own blog or article directory. bookmark it, tweet about it while tagging it to relevant categories and relevant people. Write a small 300-400 word article about the article on your directory, post it at third party article directories and give a link from that article to your site. Ideally to your original post itself.
