Hi all, got another one for you... I have a site where the huge chunk of biz will feed off of the stuff in current events... so naturally I would like to include some current even info on the site so people know where I am coming from.

Now is it better for SEO to copy excerpts, quotes, portions, or even whole articles from existing stories, ie on CNN, NY Times, etc, or is there a negative to that and I should just pop in a link to that page on that external site?

Later when we start making some profits or I have more time, I am more than willing to write my own content, current events or otherwise, but for now, I just need material that is correct and well written.

Thanks!

You should always write the source of your excerpts at the end, even if you don't provide a link to the article. You should check first because there are sites that don't allow you to copy too many paragraphs from an article, or else you will break their copyrights.

A good idea would be to comment the articles and present an original view concerning the subject or find someone who has more time, a student perhaps to write for you.

Hope this was helpfull.

Ya, probably hire and intern, haha... ya right now I am just trying to get my mockup together, and after we go live, then I have many more options for content... i hate using other people's content but this is just to get started and need to spend my time designing the site, not SEO... one of the curses of doing it all yourself, haha.... thanks for your help though, i totally agree.

It is generally considered theft, so at least give credit to where it is stolen from, even then many news providers may not be happy with having their content stolen, infact some will even try to bill you, all depends how much risk your willing to take.

Right, ya I am not trying to steal, just maybe use them as teasers and then link to them or whatever.... its all only temp anyways until I finish the site and then I will write my own. But the thing is, having such content does help SEO a little correct?
