I have several websites that are not related to one another. But still, I have directed back links on most of my websites. Some of the sites are linked to each other, even though they are of a different niche. Now, I have received ranking on Google for obscure keywords. Moreover, Google has not placed me on the result page for my primary keyword. On the other hand, Yahoo has completely ignored me with lame ranking. However, I get back links from Yahoo. I am totally disappointed. But, how can I overcome this hurdle. Is there any way to get relevant backlinks?

It takes time and patience, and links are NOT the answer to everything any more.

Yahoo tends to pick up back links quicker than google, still doesn't give them much relevance though, think they just list them to be nice

Backlinks definitely do work on Yahoo. The more I get the higher my ranking goes.

1. First things first, I hope your site is not too new. If so, ranking can take a while.

2. As Chris said, there are important things other than backlinks in SEO. Take time to learn them. Chances are that you'd come back more enlightened.

3. If you are optimizing for a single keyword, stop and rethink your strategy. Nowadays, I hardly optimize for single word keywords or for that matter even two word combinations. Way too much effort and nothing much to show for. Long tail keywords are far effective and less competitive.

Also, please be a clear about what you ask. Leave your emotions at your head. We can't use them and we don't need them. Bare facts are more than enough to help you.
