Is there such a thing as a bad link?

I've seen quite a few posts and threads here discussing what factors influence the quality of a link, but I was curious to hear people's thoughts about whether or not a link could actually cause any harm.

Would placing a link on an unrelated page with a low PR and many other bad links do any damage to one's SEO efforts?

Nope.

It may not have any useful value but it will not "harm"

AND BTW unrelated or low PR are NOT measures of "bad links".

Links from Scraper sites, banned pages, p0rn, pharmacy, gambling, FFA link pages etc etc are NOT "bad links" and are NOT going to "hurt" either.

SE engineers are well aware that a site operator is not always in control of who links TO the pages on a site.

If there was such a thing as bad links the internet would turn into a battlefield

Bad links are still links. They can still generate traffic to a site.

one link could not do any harm. but if you spam that link using bots to all forums and blog comments than you might get into the google sandbox.

Keep listening to common sense, and disbelieve anything that SEO "experts" say until you can prove it to be fact.
