Why would submitting to a client his current ranking for each of his targeted keywords make a person look stupid? I would think it would make him look knowledgeable or capable. I think I am missing somthing here. Thanks

The best SEO tool you have is your brain. Learn to do specialized searches using "allintitle:" for example and start to see what pages are really targeting the same keywords you think may apply to your market. Keep in mind: you will often get a lot more traffic from long-tail keywords if you provide great content. I have found after many years of doing SEO that worrying about a few major keywords is a big mistake. Much better to offer something new and different (i.e. useful content) to the public and letting the web "word of mouth" take over.
